Le Bannier Hotel Restaurant

The rooms upstairs are modern and comfortable, and the bathrooms are bright and nicely laid out. Downstairs there’s a bar and restaurant, while the hotel entrance is tucked down the side alley and easy to miss at first. It’s classed as a two-star place, partly because there’s no elevator and you have to climb a narrow, winding staircase. Still, it’s a lovely little hotel, and the proprietor is very pleasant and helpful, with some English. Highly recommended.

Meals are served in the restaurant downstairs, and breakfast, lunch and dinner are all reasonably priced. Everything is homemade, and the big, tasty salads are filling enough to be a meal on their own. Upstairs, the rooms are spacious and clean, with practical bathrooms and no unnecessary frills. There’s a flat-screen TV and WiFi in each room, outlets are conveniently placed, and the doors don’t slam. The mattress and pillows were good, and the bedding is sheets and blankets. There’s no air conditioning. The short, narrow, winding staircase is manageable unless you’re carrying a huge suitcase. Le Bannier has a charming, simple, traditional French feel.

A cosy, comfortable place, and the restaurant is excellent. The chef does wonderful things with traditional dishes.

It’s conveniently located, and there’s a kitchen of its own.
