Château Haute Roche

We didn’t stay nearly long enough, so we’ve got a good reason to come back. The Tower room was wonderful, and the chateau and grounds are lovely. Lars and Nirin were warm, professional hosts. We have so many dietary restrictions, but Lars still made us an incredible meal. He’s very talented, and the reviews really aren’t exaggerated. It’s also just a few metres from the Loire a Velo. Every detail was fabulous.

We were in the area for a wedding, and my father and I had a fantastic stay. The peaceful setting is beautiful, and the dogs were the cherry on top. Lars and Nirin are lovely hosts who have clearly thought through the details that make a stay comfortable and feel luxurious. Our first-night dinner was spectacular, especially the wines. The rooms are all tastefully done, finished to a high standard, and immaculately clean. Haute Roche is great value and made for a truly memorable stay. A must if you’re in the area.

The views are stunning, the food is incredible, and the hospitality is wonderful. It’s such a calm, peaceful spot. Lars made the experience hard to beat at Chateau Haute Roche. I only wish we’d booked a longer stay.

The valley view from our spacious room was lovely, and the bed was comfortable. The castle is beautiful and freshly renovated. But we didn’t feel welcome. We hadn’t booked the very expensive dinner, and even though the outdoor table was completely empty, we weren’t allowed to have our own cider there. We had less than two glasses. I understand the owner also sells cider and may have been upset that we brought ours, but I think he could have made an exception. In the end, he sent us back to our room. Breakfast was disappointing too. My glass was dirty, and the tea cup had lipstick marks. The brioche was dry and clearly stale. They served store-bought orange juice, while French hotels in that price range offer fresh juice and bread. There’s a railway in the valley, with trains passing often. Luckily, we had earplugs.
