Plage Palace Hotel

The wellness facilities were a great bonus, especially the spa, gym, and outdoor jacuzzi. Our room was extremely spacious, with an amazing view over the sandy beach. We ate at the restaurant on our first night, and the miso salmon is the one to get. A must-stay if you’re in the area.

We’ve been coming back since I left a very positive review five years ago. Over the past two weeks we visited the beach and restaurant, then added two nights at the hotel. Things had been good, but dinner tonight changed how I feel about the restaurant. I ordered the pepper steak for the fifth time in ten days because it’s spicy and delicious. This one didn’t look bloody at all, so I sent it back, since the previous four had been perfect. Two minutes later the waiter returned with the same steak, cut into four pieces, and told me it actually was bloody. He said they could make me a blue one if I wanted. That was odd, given how the earlier steaks had been and that my judgment now seemed to count for less. I ate the cut-up steak and the “FY” from the kitchen. We’d spent €2,500 here in ten days. They also brought two salads when we’d ordered one, and we kept them because they’re very good. We’re fine, but the cook and kitchen clearly aren’t. If your steak isn’t how you want it, apparently you can expect it to be cut up and sent back to you. Well done, five-star hotel. No tip this time, and I’m changing my earlier five stars. The restaurant seems to think it gets to tell guests what’s good and what isn’t.

We went for dinner with my husband, and the restaurant was just okay. The food was good, but nothing special when eating outside, and the service was really poor. The waiter seemed untrained, so we had to ask once or twice for everything, from bread and cutlery to water. We ordered different drinks for each part of the meal, but they all arrived at once and got warm. If you’re expecting a Palace experience, walk away. Very disappointing for somewhere with Palace in its name.

The layout is unusual in a good way: reception, lobby, shop, restaurant, and bar all flow into each other, unlike the usual setup. Staff were highly professional, friendly, helpful, and easy to deal with. The atmosphere was relaxed, and our room was spacious, with a lovely balcony and sea view.
