There’s nowhere comfortable to relax as a couple or as adults: the rooms are just beds and desks, with university-style wardrobes, poor Wi-Fi, and not even basic soap. Students were around all night, while a night guard controlled who came in and out. The place feels like a student residence, not a tourist hostel. We arrived exhausted after a long trip, hoping to unwind and celebrate Valentine’s Day with dinner and wine. Instead, we found that outside food and drinks weren’t allowed. That restriction wasn’t clearly highlighted in the Booking.com description, and if we’d known, we wouldn’t have booked. The residence restaurant is the only food option, and it closes early, so a late dinner isn’t possible. At the entrance, the vending machine has only soft drinks and juices. If you’re hungry late at night, a juice is about all you can get until breakfast. Breakfast is on plastic trays in a student canteen setting, with queues, noise, and a fixed schedule. It wasn’t relaxing or romantic. Checkout at 09:30 am was the earliest we’ve ever had to leave, and it doesn’t work with a tourist itinerary. We ended up spending extra money to move urgently to a 4-star hotel 15 minutes from the Eiffel Tower, for the same price as this booking. It ruined our night and part of the trip.

The room was unbearably hot, with no air conditioning. We couldn’t sleep with the windows shut, but opening them meant hearing street noise all night, with cars parking right by the bed. Then someone tried our door early in the morning. Breakfast was terrible for the price. The hard-boiled eggs were overcooked and tasteless, there was no fresh fruit or vegetables, and the fruit salad had no taste either. I really wouldn’t recommend staying here if you want a good night’s sleep.

The rooms are sparse and practical, without even coffee-making facilities, but once you get past that, it’s a great place to stay. The desk staff are super friendly and helpful.

The food was a problem. The buffet had very little choice, and dinner on the first day was only lukewarm. I later saw microwaves in the dining area, presumably for reheating meals. The trays were usually dirty, and sometimes bowls or trays still had food left by the previous guest. The cutlery was often sticky and generally not very clean. We also had to sit through a 15-minute hotel briefing at the start, including obvious points like holding the key card to open the door and not using the elevator in a fire. I wouldn’t recommend it.
