Hotel Avenir Jonquiere

I can't make sense of the positive reviews. Why do some guests get a decent room and others a crappy one? My photos of this room show why I think there's a case for false advertising. I was put in an unrenovated attic, while the pictures on Booking.com show renovated rooms. The receptionist said they couldn't photograph every room and that I should have stated specific preferences when booking. I prefer basic honesty. They also said they couldn't move me because the hotel was fully booked. I checked in two hours ago for one night on my way to London, and I'm just waiting for daylight so I can leave. The room is small and filthy, and airing it out hasn't helped my dust mite allergies. The internet is unsecured and so slow that even simple website links time out, so I can't get any work done. The receptionist wouldn't give me the manager's name so I could lodge a complaint. I also blame Booking.com for not checking the property's condition.

For a simple place to sleep without luxury, this worked really well. The room was spotless, cleaned and the bed made each day, and the staff were lovely, greeting us warmly every time. The metro is just a few steps away. On our last night they made us an amazing traditional French breakfast, all of it delicious and super fresh. I have no complaints and highly recommend it.

The shower never works, so if you don't need to shower or wash your hair, it's okay. The location is perfect, with lots of nice local restaurants nearby, in a typical neighborhood with fewer tourists.

The staff were really friendly and helpful, and breakfast was delicious. Our room was clean, comfortable, and very quiet. It's an affordable hotel in a great spot, close to the metro and surrounded by nice shops, cafés, and restaurants. Highly recommend.
