The location was good. That's the only positive I can give. The bathroom smelled strongly, the toilet seat and shower were broken, and the water pressure and temperature controls didn't work. The sink was positioned so badly it was almost unusable. Even the towels smelled of cigarettes. We booked three months ahead and still seemed to get one of the worst rooms: on the first floor beside the stairs, with paper-thin walls. People came and went all night, keeping my partner and me awake. There were no quiet-hours signs, and the buzzer or phone wasn't switched to silent, so it echoed through the whole hotel. There was no temperature control in the room. Turning off the radiator did nothing because hot pipes ran through the wall, and there was no AC. The room was grimy and clearly hadn't had a deep clean in a while. Cleaning happened most days, but the cleaner didn't seem to care. There was no kettle, glasses, or cups, things you'd expect in a hotel. The bed was an uncomfortable small double, barely large enough for one person, even though there was room for a normal double. The rooms don't look like the pictures. Maybe they did once, but now it feels like catfishing for hotels. A poor experience overall. Be very wary about booking here.

For our short stay, this was good, and I imagine Paris hotels may be similar. We were a family of four with two rooms and two double beds. They provided towels and shower gel, and we had a balcony. The hotel has made the best of what it has, with nice decor. The location was good, though the thin walls meant we could hear other guests using the stairs. Tea and coffee facilities would've been nice. Breakfast is available for €7, but we chose to eat at a nearby shop, where a croissant and coffee cost €2.

The location is perfect and convenient. The rooms are very basic and warm, with no air conditioning, so I imagine summer could be unbearable. The bathroom smelled of mould, and the towels were paper thin and had holes. The lift was tiny and didn't work properly.

Hôtel Clauzel gives you a central Paris location at a relatively affordable price, but it does the bare minimum. It's rated two stars, and even that feels a little generous. The staff struck me as rude and indifferent. The rooms are extremely basic, with no fan, which would make summer nights uncomfortable, and no mini fridge, a small amenity that would've made a difference. There's very little soundproofing, so hallway traffic, neighbours, and street noise can carry at all hours. If you're a light sleeper, that could be a real problem. If all you need is a simple place to sleep and you can manage the noise and lack of amenities, it might work. Otherwise, it may be worth paying more for comfort.

The view was top notch, and the area was perfect. They cleaned every day and let us leave our luggage. The metro is seven minutes away, and Monmarte is ten minutes away.
