Hôtel de L'Horloge

The owners and workers were so sweet and helpful. My French is extremely limited, but they were all really nice and explained everything to me. The neighborhood is lively and multicultural in an authentic parisian way, and I never felt unsafe. There’s good food for days, plus a supermarket and metro close by. I needed somewhere at short notice for two nights, after hours of searching for basic accommodation in a safe, clean area. This hotel had everything I wanted: a bed, clean bathroom, and tiny kitchen. It’s small, but that’s all I needed as a traveler planning to sleep there and spend the day exploring Paris. I’d 100% recommend it and would definitely stay again if I make it back to Paris. The neighborhood is lively and noisy, with plenty of places to eat and drink at every price. The location is on the edge of Paris, straddling the 11th and 20th, which can be handy for getting to the airport quickly. Public transport and local sights are close by. The rooms are small and basic, more like serviced apartments than a hotel. Our hosts were responsive and accommodating before, during, and after our stay.

For what we paid, this was a good property, with a convenient spot for getting to tourist areas and then retreating from the crowds. Food was easy to find within a few minutes, including excellent, reasonably priced bakeries. Two metro lines were under a 10-minute walk away, with buses nearby too. Pere-Lachaise cemetery was close, as was Parc de Belleville, with its gardens and views of the city and Eiffel Tower. The building was tidy and well kept, with good security. Staff were always friendly and helpful, and everything seemed to work. It’s a typical Paris hotel for this price range, with small rooms, especially when carrying extra luggage for a study abroad child. Our second-floor room had narrow stairs and then three levels inside, between the bed and bathroom, because of the head access for the steps. That was annoying, particularly after dark. The bed was a double pushed against the wall, so we had to crawl to reach the inner side. The TV was small but fine for the room. There was a little kitchenette with a stove top refrigerator, sink, and a few dishes. The bathroom was tight, with a toilet, very small shower, and sink. Getting around it meant opening doors and shutting things to avoid knocking our elbows, but it was manageable.

Our room was clean and comfortable, with what we needed. We were near the front entrance, which was nice, though there was some noise from people coming and going. It didn’t bother us much, but light sleepers may want to keep it in mind. The staff were truly adorable, kind, and welcoming, and friendly and helpful when we had questions, even though they didn’t give us specific suggestions for places to visit or eat. Hotel de l'Horloge is in a quiet, charming neighborhood that’s nice for a stroll and has a local feel, with public transport, shops, and restaurants close at hand. We had a very pleasant stay in Paris and would gladly come back.
