Hotel Denfert Montparnasse

The area was the best part: a really nice neighborhood with easy access to the Metro and buses for the Latin Quarter and other places. The view from our hotel was good too. But the service was terrible. We arrived to find our assigned room still dirty and being cleaned, so we had to wait. The place is a bit old, which is understandable, but it isn’t kept clean. They didn’t provide shower soap, shampoo, or conditioner, and told us to use the hand soap for everything. I speak Spanish and English, but the staff made no effort to speak either and only used French. In a tourist area, I’d expect more flexibility. For the price, the service just isn’t good.

Friendly, accommodating staff and a clean hotel, with plenty to see and do on the street. Good value for the price, and highly recommended if you want a stay that won’t break the bank.

The rooms are a bit worn, but it’s an affordable, nice option if you’re visiting Paris on a budget or are young and don’t plan to spend much time in the room. Breakfast is served in the connected bar and restaurant, and it’s good for 8 euros per person. The croissants and bread come from the bakery across the street. The elevator is veeeery small, though the hotel isn’t big, so you rarely have to share it. The front desk seems to be staffed 24/7, which means you can check in whenever you like. Handy if you want to explore the city before checking in.

Montparnasse Cemetery is right nearby and well worth a wander. We found the street peaceful, with plenty of restaurants and boulangeries close by, and the metro only a few minutes away. The room was compact, as expected, but the bed was very comfortable and the small bathroom had a lovely shower. They also kept our bags at reception before check-in and after check-out.
