Hôtel des Ecrivains

We found it easy to get around Paris from Place d'Italie, with metro lines 5, 6 and 7 plus plenty of buses. Some sights were walkable too: about 15 minutes to the Pantheon, Luxembourg Gardens and Saint Michel Fountain, and around 20 to Notre Dame Cathedral. The hotel also connects well to the main train stations. We spent a wonderful seven days here. The rooms were a little small, but comfortable, clean and welcoming, with a very French feel. The front desk team were kind, and English was no problem. Monsieur Gilles was especially helpful, even when we left at 5 a.m. Mille MERCIS, Monsieur!

We were there at the start of the Olympics, and the location made getting around simple. Two metro stops are a short walk away, with several lines passing through for easy access across the city. The room was spotless and comfortable. There’s no air conditioning, but they gave us a large fan that worked just as well. Everyone on staff was welcoming and efficient from the first moment. I’d happily stay again.

It was noisy the whole time, and the bedding and carpets didn't seem clean. I just lay down on the bed and ended up with bite marks.

Getting to places was easy: the metro is close, and we could walk to most of the areas we wanted to see. The staff were helpful and friendly, and breakfast was plentiful and great. We weren't comfortable in our room, though. The carpet looked old and discolored in spots, which made it seem dirty, and we didn't want to walk on it barefoot. There wasn't a fridge in our room, and apparently some rooms don't have one. The hotel could use a refresh, nothing fancy, just a cleaner look.
