Hôtel Phénix

We were happy to be given a larger room at first, but on the second day, while we were out, the staff moved all our belongings to another room without telling us. Our clothes were dumped on the bed and creased, and our toiletries were put in my girlfriend's bag with our electrical cables and her straighteners. They also went through my bag to keep a keychain with a picture of me and my girlfriend on it, apparently to identify us. That felt creepy and completely out of line. The bathroom in the new room had a shower head that wouldn't stay in its holder, so we had to improvise. Staff acted as if their English wasn't good, while seeming to understand everything we said. When we complained to the travel company, the hotel apparently said we had lied and none of it happened, even though we had photos. On arrival, staff also tried to charge us €15 a day in cash for parking and said we could be fined if we didn't pay, although the parking was actually free. Our original room upgrade was appreciated, but I would strongly recommend avoiding this hotel. I'd give it zero stars if I could.

Moncef really helped me out when a problem with the Trip.com app meant my deposit was paid and then cancelled. I called the hotel, and he kept my reservation active and made a huge difference to my experience there. Many thanks, Moncef. You're an excellent employee, a perfect 10!

The location is a real highlight, right by the Arc De Triumph, which is lovely to see just around the corner. The rooms are fairly clean and decent, with lots of wardrobe space and a nice hot shower, though the safe didn't work. The beds aren't very comfortable, so for a longer stay in Paris I'd consider somewhere else. I didn't try breakfast. They did make the beds and leave fresh towels each time we went out, which was a lovely touch. Pretty decent overall.

The room was basic, but that was fine with us. We had a lovely stay and might book here again if we return someday. It's just a short walk to the popular Arch of Triumph and the high end shopping district, so the location is perfect.
