Lodge In Paris 13 Hotel

We picked this hotel partly because it was one of the more affordable options for our week in Paris. I worried it might be too far from the center, but Porte d'Ivry is about five minutes away on foot, and the Metro gets you to the center in 10 or 15 minutes at most. There’s also a tram and a bus nearby, though we didn’t try them. In the 13th arrondissement, Avenue de Choisy has an interesting Asian neighborhood, with Vietnamese restaurants I’d recommend, and there’s a more futuristic quarter along the Seine too. Our room was clean and serviced every morning. The receptionist who was there at check-in was especially nice, and the other staff were good too. Breakfast is available for an extra 14€ per person, but we didn’t try it. We mostly bought food at monoprix markets or ate at small restaurants. I highly recommend the place.

The heating barely worked, so the room was extremely cold, and the sofa bed was very uncomfortable. We also found the furniture damaged and dirty, and the bedding stained. The room we booked was incomplete, missing an entire bedroom, but staff weren’t willing to help sort that out. Communication was another problem. Staff spoke English at first, then switched to French when we tried to complain. Parking was inconvenient too, with a confusing garage and only around six spaces. The stay was far from satisfactory.

The room was good quality and housekeeping came daily. There were two sealed glass windows and a fan that didn’t work, though the receptionist replaced the fan for us. Even then, the room was warm and we were sweating. There was no tea or coffee maker, or even water in the room. If you want hot water, you have to go down to reception, which is very inconvenient.

I have a reservation and needed to change it, but haven’t been able to get through to anyone. Over about two weeks, I called the number on the hotel website three times, sent two inquiry forms, and emailed as well. The calls didn’t connect, and I’ve had no reply at all. This lack of communication makes the hotel seem unreliable even before my stay.
