Hotel Lumen Paris Louvre

We had a clean, tidy room on the fifth floor with a balcony overlooking the church next door. It was the typical small European room you'd expect in a Paris Hotel, and we'd happily stay again. The staff and location were both wonderful. I'd skip the paid breakfast, though. It was underwhelming. There's a bagel place right next door, or you can go to a lovely boulangerie.

The location was excellent, close to the Metro as well as restaurants and cafes. We stayed as a family, with a double room and a suite for our daughter and two grandchildren. The reception staff were consistently welcoming and handled our questions promptly. In the evenings we had drinks at the bar and used the round table to play cards.

The staff were kind and friendly, and the location is a real plus: the Louvre and attractions like Angelina's are very close and easy to reach on foot. The hotel was relatively clean, with no bed bugs. Still, calling it four stars feels generous; to me it was closer to three. The room needed attention. There were large scrapes or dents in the wall, a broken tile under the sink, and a towel warmer that didn't work. The shower setup was awkward: just a glass panel about as long as the sink, no curtain, and a narrow tub, so water ended up all over the floor. The towel racks were VERY high. We could reach the towels, but putting them back on the high shelves and hooks was a challenge. The room service was inconsistent about small things. They said they'd replenish both still and sparkling water daily, but we only got still water, and it wasn't refilled every day, so we bought our own from a nearby grocery store. Towels were also sometimes missing, whether a regular towel, face towel, or bath mat. There was always something absent. The fridge was barely usable because it was stocked with things for purchase. Breakfast cost 25 Euros per person. The coffee tasted watered down and the scrambled eggs were usually cold. On the other hand, few nearby places were open at 7AM, so it may sometimes be the best option around. The street outside was very noisy, with all the sound coming through the windows. We could also hear a child and mother talking upstairs, along with someone practicing piano. Internet was extremely slow, between 5-10Mbps, and I couldn't get my work items done. Some sites say there's a laundry facility, but that may be misleading or mistranslated: they only offer laundry service, with no self-serve facilities. Service could improve by paying closer attention and being more consistent.

The cozy room was small by Canadian standards, but thoughtfully designed and well appointed. I really enjoyed my stay, and breakfast was great. Lots of major sights are an easy walk away, and there's a pharmacy less than a minute away on foot. The staff were super friendly.
