Maison Barrière Vendôme

The room was beautiful and in a great location, and the food was delicious. Room service was quick, too, with our coffee and food always arriving hot. What really made it special was how the staff got to know us and what we liked. We never had to ask for things because it felt like they already knew. Coming back after a day out felt like coming home. We stayed at four more hotels afterward, and kept saying how much we missed this hotel and its staff. I can't wait to return!

I couldn't find anything wrong with the place. The facilities were clean, and the bathrooms had an automatic bidet, which is unusual to find in Europe. The gym wasn't finished yet when I visited, but I looked around and the quality of the finish was top tier. The location and security on the block were excellent. What stayed with us most was how little empathy we felt during a very painful time. We had to cut our stay short by three nights after hearing that our beloved dog of nearly 16 years had unexpectedly passed away while we were abroad. We knew we had booked a non-refundable rate, but no goodwill offer was made, whether a partial credit, voucher for a future stay, or even an adjustment for one night. We visit Paris several times a year and had expected a more compassionate response from a hotel of this caliber. Three prepaid nights went unused. Apart from refunding the city taxes for those nights, the hotel offered no accommodation or gesture. Hospitality is also about how guests are treated when life changes without warning, not just the surroundings and service. Even a modest future stay credit, voucher, complimentary breakfast, or other gesture would have shown care and appreciation for a guest dealing with a family loss. Instead, we left feeling policy mattered more than compassion. A little humanity can mean a lot when you're grieving. I don't usually write reviews, but this left me disappointed enough to speak up.

The breakfast was great, the cleaning was good, and the staff were polite and helpful. For the money, it's good value, especially among Paris 5-star hotels where you might normally pay eur2k+ per night. My only two complaints were a cat pee smell in the bathroom and no heated floor.
