Mary's

The room was compact, but it still fit four suitcases, including two large ones, and had cabinets, shelves, and a hanging area with plenty of hangers. The beds were really comfortable, and I slept well every night. It was clean, smelled fresh, and had lots of lamps. The bathroom was great too, with an adjustable-lit mirror, a powerful hairdryer, fresh towels, and a clean toilet and shower. The shower door didn’t close properly, though, which was my only real complaint. Hotel Mary’s worked well for us because we were fine with small spaces and didn’t need a fancy place. It’s about twenty steps from Oberkampf metro, near the café facing the main road, and also close to République square and its metro. Everyone on staff was friendly and helpful. The receptionist who welcomed us was relaxed and gave us lots of useful Paris tips, and the rest of the team were great too. The stairs, elevator, and doors are all small or heavy, so moving luggage takes a little time, but you can manage in pairs. I liked the narrow feel, and the multiple doors gave a sense of security. We forgot to book breakfast, but the few times I saw it, there seemed to be a decent range. I’d stay at Hotel Mary’s again if I came back to Paris.

The hotel is in a safe area, right by a metro station, and the rooms are pleasant and cleaned daily. They’re small, which is what you’d expect at this price. One thing to know is that I had to pay by wire transfer instead of using a credit card.

The room was usable for our one night, though very small, and there wasn’t much space for an elderly disabled woman to move around. We were near the Metro, with plenty of local bars and restaurants, and I got to Notre Dame Cathedral in under 20 minutes. The stay started poorly because I’d booked a room near the lift but was put at the top of a flight of stairs. When I challenged that, the only alternative offered was a much smaller room. I asked about getting the price difference back and was initially told no. Later, I got a call saying there’d be a small refund through booking.com. We’ll see.

A really good find in 11eme. The room was small but well laid out, the bed was comfy, and the price was very reasonable. The friendly receptionist helped me switch rooms so I could check in early.
