The courtyard was a lovely place to sit with a coffee or glass of wine, and we really appreciated how welcoming and helpful everyone was. Our fourth-floor room was quiet and had a nice view. We did hear the nearby church bells now and then, but they weren't loud or frequent enough to bother us. We actually found them charming. Breakfast was very good, with options like scrambled eggs, sweet breads, yogurt, fruit, fresh juice, and coffee. The staff spoke fluent English, which helped since our French wasn't great. We could walk to the Louvre, Musée d'Orsay, and plenty of cafes, shops, and restaurants from the hotel's spot in Saint-Germain-des-Prés in the 6th arrondissement. We'd found the hotel in a Frommer's guide while planning our Paris trip, and were glad we chose it. The elevator was fairly new and worked well. We'd happily stay again.
The rooms are well looked after, though a little tight, which seems normal for many places in Europe. Make time for the inner courtyard, and after a night out you can get wine, champagne, or other drinks at the hotel. Breakfast was great, too. Saint-Germain-des-Prés puts you within easy reach of cafes, restaurants, shopping, nightlife, and cultural sights, either on foot or by Metro. The staff were friendly, gave useful local advice, and made a real effort to keep guests comfortable. A wonderful Parisian stay.
I could happily spend day and night at this lovely hotel, looking out at rooftops, church bells, and terracotta chimney pots, writing poetry and making love to the clouds. Apollinaire was just around the corner, reciting his poems in the park while I sipped wine from a bottle tucked inside my jacket. At night, the mannequins in the bookstore, cafes, and antique shop windows stared out at me. Just like I did at them. I felt old and young at once, and I long to come back soon.
The garden is beautiful, and breakfast is nice. This is my favourite place to stay in Paris, mostly because the staff are amazing, especially Jan. My only gripe is that some rooms are very cramped, even for two people.
Judith, Jurgen, and the whole team made us feel so welcome. Judith's restaurant tips were fantastic, and everyone was attentive throughout our five nights. We had a Superior Garden Room with breakfast. It was on the small side, but we had plenty of storage, and the air conditioning worked well, which was a big plus in summer. Clarins products were provided in the bathroom, and the water pressure made for a refreshing shower. The location was excellent, close to great restaurants and sights including Musée d'Orsay, Notre Dame, the Louvre, the Latin Quarter, and Jardin du Luxembourg. We'd definitely come back to Hôtel des Marronniers.
