Hôtel Villa Navarre

We chose this hotel for our marriage anniversary and were extremely disappointed by the service and staff. On arrival, the room was too hot. When we asked about the AC, the receptionist was rude and told us to open a window. At breakfast a waitress asked how we wanted our eggs, then disappeared without bringing them. Dinner was booked for 8pm and we arrived on time, but nobody offered us drinks. We waited without even a bottle of water despite asking many times, and the waitress didn’t take our order until after 9pm. Our plates came out separately, so one of us had to watch the other eat or let food go cold. After the entrees, our table wasn’t cleared for 40 minutes while we waited for the main courses. We raised this at reception, but the receptionist didn’t apologize, as if this were normal for a 5-star hotel. If you’re after a luxurious, relaxing stay, I wouldn’t recommend this place. No amenities can make up for staff who are rude, incompetent and don’t care about guests.

There was no cable, and the internet was down for a whole day. When I called reception, she told me to use my 4G. Reception was often unattended, and the bar was mostly without staff too. When someone was there, the service wasn’t great. There’s no restaurant service at lunch or in the evenings. The rooms are old and plain, the safe didn’t work, hooks were falling off the door, and there were scratches and signs of use everywhere. The toilets were like something at a gas station. This isn’t a 5-star hotel, just a nice manor pretending to be one. It’s no good for work, a special occasion, dinner or the bar. Just avoid it.

The room was up in the attic, with lots of space, a great view and a comfy bed. Nice touches included dressing gowns, a fridge and a coffee machine, and the staff were friendly. I loved the small but nice spa, and the outdoor pool in the lovely garden. I also had a wonderful massage and scrub, and the restaurant food was lovely. The price was pretty reasonable, especially for August. It seems perfect for couples. Shame I was there alone 😂. I’ll come back one day!

Villa Navarre is an elegant historic manor with a huge garden and lovely Pyrenees views. I’ve had several five-star experiences there before, with good service and meals at the bistrot restaurant. This time was very different. When I arrived, no one was at reception or in the restaurant, so I found our reserved terrace table on my own. The food came an hour after we ordered, and there were no orderves while we waited like there had been in the past. The bread tray only showed up shortly after the food. Nobody checked on us during the meal, and we gave up before dessert. When we wanted to pay and leave, there was still nobody around. My son finally went to the kitchen to ask for help. I’d give this latest visit one star. I might bring friends here for a drink, but for now I’d rather eat elsewhere than risk another inconsistent meal.
