Chalet Hôtel d'Ailefroide

We picked this for our holiday treat meal and really enjoyed it. The menu was lovely, with specials, and the peach salad was a particular favourite. The outdoor seating was nice, and the staff made us feel welcome. Delicious food. I’d definitely recommend it.

The garden is lovely, the beer is decent, and the staff are friendly. It’s a nice spot with good food and drinks, though vegetarians have very little choice beyond a risotto, much like elsewhere. The atmosphere and service are much better than at the hotel farther up the valley, which I wouldn’t bother visiting.

We had a terrible time with the bar service. Nobody came, so we had to get the menu ourselves, then waited ages before anyone took our order. When it finally arrived, it was incomplete and we had to wait again. A used glass from the previous guest stayed on our table the whole time. The beer was expensive. I’d go somewhere else.

The views and the dinner were the only good parts for me. The room was extremely small for two, with a tiny bathroom, poor lighting, and lamps that didn’t work. There was nothing in the room, not even a TV. It felt more like a hostel than a hotel. I really wouldn’t recommend it.
