Hotel L'Hermitage

Marie, the manager, welcomed me with such a warm smile that I felt at home right away. My flight delay meant I arrived after 7 pm, and she carried my backpack to the room so I didn't have to go up and down the stairs twice. The rooms are lovely and spacious compared with Paris, the grounds are beautiful and well kept, and the price felt reasonable. Breakfast is included, and you can have dinner at the hotel if you reserve at least three hours ahead. There isn't an elevator, so anyone who has trouble walking should ask for a ground-floor room. Getting there can cost a lot. Restaurants and pretty much everything else in town are far away, and it's very dark at night. You can take an Uber or taxi, but ask to be dropped near reception since the hotel is tucked away and there's a long walk in otherwise. A couple of housekeeping details bothered me: sometimes dirty towels were taken without replacements, and there weren't door cards to say when you didn't need service. If they do have cards, I guess you'll know to leave a tip when you need service.

It felt less like a hotel and more like staying at my grandmother's house, which was the part we loved most. Our room was peaceful and charming, with those old French windows looking out over the garden. The staff were kind, professional, and welcoming every time, especially at reception. We only had one night in Provence, which felt too short, but we left with lovely memories. Thanks for such a great little vacation.

We've been back to the hotel the Hermitage again and again, and have always had a lovely stay. It's in a quiet, wooded spot on the edge of Pernes les Fontaines, with a pool and parking on site. Our room was bright and spacious, and the owners and staff have always treated us kindly. This time, we especially appreciated being able to dine in the park on excellent products Philippe had chosen. Thanks to Nathalie and the Delahousse gentlemen.

The garden and outdoor area are lovely, and the rooms were reasonably clean. But rooms 3 and 4 are right by the breakfast area on the ground floor, and the sound carries badly. By 7am we could hear people chatting, laughing and shouting, along with a barking dog. It's the hotel's dog, though that isn't mentioned anywhere. We tried closing the corridor door between breakfast and our entrance on the second night, but someone had opened it again by morning. Both nights we went out for dinner and returned around midnight to find only cold water for a shower. Apparently management turns off the hotel boiler overnight. There was also a strange smell from what seemed like poorly cleaned drains around the hotel. It was too strong to leave the windows open, so we had to use the room's AC even though we usually don't sleep with it on.
