Hôtel Aragon

The staff were friendly, and the room was warm in November. It had been renovated and was for three people, but there was only one chair and two power outlets. There was a kettle but no cups, and the street outside was loud.

We stayed for one night in August, and most of the city’s restaurants and other places were closed. This is handy for a last-minute stay near the town centre. The room was clean enough, though you should keep in mind it’s a two-star hotel. I noticed some paint peeling from the walls, but I gathered they were sorting things out and renovating that summer. The photo below is the view from the third-floor balcony. I gave it five stars because the customer service was so good. Natasha at reception was friendly, and gave us a discount with complimentary breakfast when she couldn’t immediately find my Airbnb reservation. I’m not sure why some reviews say the staff are unprofessional.

Really friendly, terrific hotel. I’d recommend calling them to book directly, since there’s more flexibility than using booking.com.

The price is very competitive, especially for somewhere less than five minutes’ walk from the historic centre. Finding a free parking space nearby took me a while, though I’ve read other guests had better luck, so maybe it was just me. Breakfast was very basic, and the coffee was bad, sorry. I’d eat elsewhere next time. The rooms aren’t large, and the hotel itself is a little old, so loud guests inside can be heard. Maybe I was just unlucky. From outside, though, the sound insulation is very good, even though it’s near the centre and a major street. The room was clean and functional, and some rooms have a small terrace. On arrival I got a really nice welcome, and the staff were friendly and professional.
