We had a leisurely lunch on the terrace after arriving at lunchtime, and the welcome was friendly even though our reserved chambre jardin wasn't available until 3 p.m. The food was excellent, with imaginative, interesting dishes compared with many places in the region and France generally, and fair prices for the quality. We took a walk nearby afterwards. Our garden room was in a separate building beside the hotel and close to the water. It had a small deck with chairs, plus sunbeds on the grass. The refurbished room was clean, with a very comfortable large double bed, a sofa that converts to a bed, and a kettle with refreshments. There was hanging space and shelving in the inner hall, along with extra pillows and a blanket. The shower room was spacious, spotless, tiled, and well planned. The main building and its large dining room and bar are charming, with characterful furnishings and decor and views over the terrace and lake. We had another delicious, nicely presented meal in the evening. Breakfast was self-service in a room opening onto the balcony, with plenty to choose from: fresh baked goods, ham, cheese, yoghurt, fruit, and a hot drink machine with a full selection. It made for a relaxing start before more walks around the lake. Steps from the terrace go down past a lower terrace area where the Crêperie might be open in summer, then onto a path to the garden rooms, beach, and beyond. The area seems to be undergoing refurbishment. The owners' dogs welcomed us, including two young pups, and we saw toys scattered around the grounds and cats outside too. The animals were all amenable to us and our Staffie. It's a homely, very pet-friendly hotel, and all the staff we met were helpful and friendly. We'll be back for more short stays and to explore the many walks nearby, since it's only two hours from our home. Best wishes for the coming year. Bon courage!

The lake views are superb, and I would definitely return for the food, which was fantastic. I was there for a birthday meal on 30 06 2017 and had a vegetarian option, which they accommodated very well. My starter was a simple, tasty avocado salad. The main was a fancy mushroom omelette with potato, though I wished it were something I could make at home. They cook with what's in season, but the written menu doesn't get updated to match, so choosing can be a bit of a lottery. If you don't know what's in season, it can take a while. Dessert was a small chocolate pudding with chocolate mousse and red fruit coulis, delicious. The lobby looks a little tired, though the odd hippo and crocodile ornaments made it work for me. The waitress seemed a bit shy, which must be challenging in that job.

The view and location are fantastic, though it feels like you're paying for them. For what we got, it was a bit pricey. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was okay. The hotel itself is looking tired and could use a spruce-up. I stopped here on a motorbike tour, but sadly it's not somewhere I'd hurry back to 🤷🏻

The scenery is stunning, with the hotel right on the edge of Lac de Vassiviere. The restaurant was excellent, and the staff were friendly and helpful. On a very wet day there were four cats and two dogs at reception, and the smell was a little off-putting.

The setting is magnificent. The menu was limited, probably because it was the very start of the season, but it was okay. You'll need to be comfortable around dogs, though they're very nice dogs and the owners clearly love them.
