Camping des Drouilhèdes

There’s a riverside swimming beach, and the warm summer weather is lovely at this low altitude. The campsite is a good base for cycling and walks, including bike rides with 2,000-3,000 m of climbing in a day. Shops and bars are 4 km away, though we were happy with the campsite bar. The shaded tent pitches are level, and even with lots of kids during our stay, it never felt too noisy or intrusive. The family running the place made everyone feel welcome. The washrooms and toilets were always clean and had soap and toilet paper. The restaurant food was very good, though cyclists might want more calories. Bread, croissants, and coffee were available in the morning, and the evening activities were suited to the guests who were there. I’d highly recommend it for families, cyclists, or hikers.

We had some lovely days at the campsite with our 1.5-year-old daughter, and also visited Barjac, 40 minutes away, Uzes, 65 minutes away, and Saint Ambroix, 20 minutes away. They’re all beautiful towns, with Uzes especially wonderful. The setting is beautiful, with a private beach, very large shady pitches, a cozy bar, and welcoming staff. We felt at ease as soon as we arrived. It used to be owned by a Dutch couple, and lots of Dutch guests return each year. They know each other and are friendly, though that can feel a little ‘special’ at times. The evening entertainment at the bar was a downside for us. There were cover bands on Wednesday and karaoke on Thursday, and although it stopped between 23:00 and midnight, the music was too loud before then. It bothered us when our 1.5-year-old was trying to sleep, and we also wanted to relax and hear the ‘cigales’ and the quiet of nature. We didn’t enjoy our evenings as much as usual because of the volume. It’s a great campsite with wonderful staff in a beautiful region. For us it would be perfect with fewer evening ‘parties’ and a more international mix of guests.

The setting is beautiful and great for walking or biking, and there’s a river right beside the campground for swimming. It’s kid friendly, has a good atmosphere, and is very clean.
