Camping "A l'Ombre des Tilleuls"

I came to Lourdes for a pilgrimage and stayed at this caravan park with my family. I’ve visited Lourdes many times and had lovely stays in hotels before. We’re from the traveler community, and I can only speak for my own family: we always try to be respectful. What happened here left me traumatised. We felt we had no human rights and were treated like animals. One day my daughter dipped her feet in the pool. A man asked her not to, and I apologised and immediately told her to sit down. He spoke French, which I don’t understand, but his gestures made the issue clear. He went away and returned with the red-haired woman who owns the site. She shouted at me and my children to leave, said we could have our money back, and accused us of having no respect. I was deeply embarrassed. I later learned the problem was that my daughter had sliders on in the pool area, and they weren’t allowed inside the gate. It was a misunderstanding, so we took our bags and left. I had paid in full and asked for my passport back, offering a photocopy if she needed one. She refused and said she wouldn’t return it until our caravan was off the site. She also said people from my culture had been there before and didn’t have respect. None of us had ever stayed at this campsite. That was just one part of the experience: I felt intimidated when she said she was getting her husband, who is a huge man. We were overcharged for our stay, and my children and I were left out of all the activities. It was horrible, and I’ll never forget it. 💔

Bright, clean campsite just outside lourds, and great value.

We stayed in May and found it lovely and quiet. The reception staff were as helpful as anyone could be.
