Le Coeur De La Foret

We came expecting nature and a peaceful spot in the forest, based on how the campsite describes itself. Instead, there were loud parties right beside the pitches, carrying on late into the evening and spoiling the calm we’d hoped for. For relaxation, birdsong and quiet nights, I wouldn’t choose this place. It felt misleading and was very disappointing. Parking in a village centre might have been quieter.

We pitched our own tent and felt secure with the gates closed in the evening. The host was very accommodating, and the clean toilets and showers and plentiful electrical hookups covered what we needed. There are also unusual-looking cabins and lots of outdoor games for children, plus great cycling routes nearby. We first stopped on our way to a local chateau, then came back that evening to stay the night. If we take that road trip again, we’ll return. One handy thing I wish I’d known sooner: you can order freshly baked pastries in the evening, and hot drinks are included at no extra cost, though those would cost extra at a town bakery.

After a long day hiking, being able to buy a beer and a few other odds and ends at the office was a welcome touch. There’s also a big pergola with benches and a socket where I could charge my phone. The owner found me a lovely pitch in a compound with a range of accommodation for different travellers. The showers had excellent hot water, and I had a lovely stay. Thanks to the owner and his daughter, they do a great job.

If you want a relaxed break with lots of woodland walking, this campsite is a good choice. It’s right beside a huge forest and a historic castle with a lake, and the staff are very friendly. They could speak Dutch too, which was really helpful.
