Hôtel l'Hippocampe

The flavors and presentation were really good, and so was the service. We had a lovely meal, and the overall price wasn't bad. Still, the food could have been better balanced for salt, as the cooking left me thirsty all night. There are two set menus, with the priciest at 34 euros and mostly fish-based. The dish selection felt a bit disappointing as a whole, especially since some good options from the cheaper menu didn't make sense to mix into the other menu. I was particularly let down by the gourmand dessert selection, especially the ananas. The toilets are a bit small, and it seemed no hot water came from the only basin. It's a good place to try, but not one I'd return to.

I rarely leave a negative review, but I felt I had to after how rudely I was treated. I booked two nights in August '23 through Booking.com, then had to cancel two days before arriving because of a very serious reason and return to Italy. I sent two messages explaining what had happened and got no reply, not even a brief expression of sympathy. They were, however, quick to take 250 euros from my card two months in advance. I can only say you treated me horribly, and I hope this helps others think twice before booking.

The starters were incredible: fresh local oysters and shrimp carpaccio. For mains we had fish with mussells and vegetables, all so fresh, and dessert was just as good. The local Far pudding with salted caramel and frozen nougat was excellent. Even with a long wait, it was worth it, and a full house on a Saturday night wasn't really their fault. By far the best seafood we've had in Britanny. Highest recommendation.

It's a great hotel, with very clean rooms and an excellent lounge. The staff were friendly and helpful. It's close to the carnac arrangment site, making it a good place to stay if you're exploring the site and surrounding area.
