From the big veranda, you can look across the lush green hillside toward the sea. It’s your own house, with an outdoor kitchen for cooking, a BBQ, or the option of having the local cook prepare a meal. There’s AC in the bedroom. A beautiful place in the hills of Basse Terre North, and recommended.

We’ve traveled quite a bit from NYC, and this place still blew us away. So peaceful and beautiful. My husband and I had an amazing time and definitely want to come back.

Laurence was easy to reach, quick to respond, and full of useful advice. We spent five nights at the Tarrazu Lodge and everything felt right: the view, amenities, bedding, bathroom, spa, and the clean, practical accommodation. We almost wished we could stay longer. Pointe Noire also makes a great base for exploring Basse-Terre. The lodge sits among Basse-Terre’s lush greenery, with living spaces that blend indoors and outdoors, as is common throughout Guadeloupe. Harmless insects may turn up, so it may not suit anyone afraid of them. We didn’t have mosquitoes, though, and the magnificent hummingbirds were the real stars. One thing to keep in mind is the access road. A long stretch needs to be driven in first gear, which got our clutch quite hot, and the road is dangerous for cars with low ground clearance. Otherwise, absolutely flawless.

Laurence and David gave us such a warm welcome, and David even made us a meal and left us coconut water. The lodge itself is beautifully decorated, with a jacuzzi, a stunning view, and peaceful surroundings full of greenery and birdsong. It felt like a real haven, and Basse-Terre’s best sites are only a few kilometers away. Everything was perfect. We highly recommend it.
