Where's the no-star option? The service was terrible and outrageous. They give you only one room key, and if you accidentally leave it inside after 9pm, an out-of-hours call costs €70. Why not give guests two keys? The receptionist also handed us incorrect Wi-Fi details, though we figured it out and accepted that mistakes happen. She said that for help after 9pm we should call an out-of-hours number, which she said was posted around the building, including in the lift. Why not put it at reception or in each room? We had to go to the lift to find the number when the heating on our room's aircon stopped working after about 20-30 minutes. The call rang through to Toulouse, another city. Tony, the gentleman who answered, was nice and tried to help, but soon realized his aircon system was different from ours. He then called the Poitiers aircon attendant, who said he wouldn't come unless there was an error message. If he did come, we'd have to pay €70. At 1am, my asthmatic husband, our two children, and I were awake in a cold apartment. Hotels.com also tried to help; they called back around 2am and agreed to pay the €70 so my family and I could get some sleep. After I paid, an attendant arrived after 2am with two spare heaters. At checkout, they asked us to wait for an engineer to assess the aircon and confirm whether it was faulty. We had better things to do than wait around to prove we weren't lying. He still hadn't arrived by 11:35, so we asked for our receipt and left. This property's appalling service overshadowed anything positive. I definitely won't recommend it. Never again. Hotels.com understood the situation better and handled my complaint more professionally.

The train station is very close, and check-in and reception both went smoothly on my second family stay in December, though this visit felt different from the first. Yahya was amazing at check-in. He went out of his way to sort out a technical issue with my ALL Loyalty program, then called after I'd left the hotel to check everything was okay. Remember to switch the heater on when you arrive. Breakfast was satisfactory, but rather expensive compared with the one at the Ibis red.

For a business trip, this was a perfect choice. The room had a comfortable desk and fast Wi-Fi, and it was quiet. Check-in and checkout were both very smooth.

The hallways smelled awful, and we had several problems during a weekend stay with my family. The AC units in our room dripped heavily overnight. When we reported it, the front desk said it was “normal,” so we had to ask for extra towels and clean it up ourselves. The pool itself was fine, with plenty of toys. We were told it closed at 20:00, and went swimming Saturday around 17:30. A receptionist opened the door and shouted something quickly about closing, but we didn't understand and they didn't come in to check we were leaving, so we stayed. Five minutes later the same receptionist came into the pool room angry and said it was closing. We explained we'd been told 20:00, and she said that was the weekday time. We were technically in the wrong, though the hours on the door were printed in incredibly small type, but she was extremely rude. When we returned around midnight, the ACs had stopped working. They'd been working when we left around 18:00, while people were still at the front desk. We couldn't reach anyone at the help number and spent an unbearable night in the heat. The hotel is on a busy street with nightlife, so opening the windows meant unbearable noise.

The staff were friendly, and the service was what you'd expect. Access and location are great, with just a short uphill walk to the heart of the area. The hotel had a really bad smell throughout, though. It didn't reach the room except in the bathroom, which smelled strongly of sewage.
