The scallops with vermouth sauce were my favourite dish of the whole trip to Normandy, and the food was amazing. Prices were reasonable too. The decor looked a bit dated, but don't let that put you off.

The restaurant served food prepared with real skill, but the dishes felt decades out of date. I eat French food at least weekly in the UK, where the chef is from Angers. I also ordered a small carafe of red wine, as my partner doesn't drink wine, and the wine here wasn't good. The hotel's position on a tight bend on a very steep hill made arrival stressful. It's in a lovely small town, but crossing from the little car park opposite felt dangerous. You can park on the pavement in front, but I thought walking across the road was safer than reversing onto the pavement, and reversing off it seemed just as risky. The slightly more expensive privilege room made sense once I saw the location. Inside, the stair and landing carpets were extremely dirty, and the automatic stair lights only came on when we were halfway up. The room felt frozen in time, with furniture I would have thrown out thirty years ago or more. The TV didn't work properly, blown bulbs hadn't been replaced, and there was no kettle. Of the five Logis hotels I've stayed in, this was the only one without one. The bed had flat sheets and blankets, which I hadn't encountered in decades. The bathroom and toilet were clean, but small, awkward, and unsafe to use. We're a tall couple for our age, and using the toilet meant standing on tiptoe. The shower was very slippery when getting out, and neither space offered much privacy from your roommate. The Hôtel supplied soap packets but no shower gel. We are two people in our seventies, just friends for over 30 years, one a widower and the other a widow. We've travelled widely for work and holidays. My late wife spoke French well, and as someone with dyslexia I was glad to leave that to her. During our stay, no staff member said or even attempted a word of English. I know a little French and understand more than I can speak, so I can't tell whether they were unwilling or unable to communicate. I'd only come across this situation in the Côte d'Azur and Paris four or five decades ago.

We had a lovely time, all four of us, and were welcomed so warmly. The food was really good, and we'll be back regularly next year with friends. We’d had an average meal here a few years ago, so we're glad we gave the hotel another try last Friday.

The location in the centre of town is handy, and the hotel has a good restaurant. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the WiFi was good. There's also bicycle storage. It's a shame the rooms feel a bit dated now.

Lovely spot and location, with really friendly staff. The food was outstanding, and the prices felt fair for the quality.
