We found Pontenx to be an idyllic little town, without the crowds you get on the nearby beaches. The prices were very reasonable, and the traditional hotel and restaurant are run by lovely people.

They charged 51 euros for just a room, and it was very small and in poor condition, with no breakfast. When it was cold, they took away our heaters, and they locked our car inside the gates. The staff were very rude. Worst of all, after our colleague left a bad review, they called him “the worst pig ever” and put it in the hotel window. I have a picture, but I can’t post it here. The worst hotel ever.

They took away our heater to save electricity, and the hotel boss called guests “pigs.” He seemed not to know any other English word. A terrible place. The horror!
