Relais du Silence Le Chateau de Sable

The sunsets were striking, and we could see them from our dinner table. Chef Julien Maltrait makes fine, modern dishes with local ingredients. We really enjoyed the meal, especially the brebis mousse with confit fennel, saffron, and strawberry acidulated sauce. Glorious! Breakfast was good too. Chateau de Sable is ideally placed for exploring the coast, with several white sand beaches an easy walk away. It’s a modern hotel with austere luxury, spacious rooms, and big beds. It’s starting to show some wear, though, and the pillows need replacing.

Our dog loved staying here, though we had to leave her in the room while we had breakfast. The rooms are huge, beautifully minimal, and the bed was comfy. The photos don’t really show how lovely they look. Breakfast was delicious, but the email promised “hot and cold options.” The only hot choice was boiling your own eggs. I expected scrambled eggs or something, but apparently they don’t serve that before 9am, which seemed odd when the breakfast room was packed at 8am. That was the only downside.

The restaurant keeps its menu small, but everything is perfectly matched, just as it should be. Add the beautiful view, lovely atmosphere, and very nice staff, and it made for a great experience.

We hadn’t booked dinner and had a hard time finding somewhere to eat. They eventually offered to bring the dinner from the Michelin Dune Rest to our room, but it was really awful and not worth a Michelin Star. The creme brulee was a disaster.
