The guided chateau tour was really interesting, and the house has a great deal of history. Our room was quiet and spacious, with fields and the river in view. The bed was very comfortable, and breakfast was very good. Well worth visiting.

Breakfast was served in a spectacular room, and the staff we met were lovely. We stayed two nights in Chambre Comtesse, a roomy first-floor room overlooking the Charente river. The Chateau tour was very interesting too.

Our guide made us feel very welcome, and the tour was excellent. We only spent a few hours there, but got to see unexpected parts of the Chateau. Really interesting, and we came away impressed.

The guided tour was easily the best one I have had at a stately home. We saw an interesting glimpse of chateau life, and it’s understandable that the owners have opened their family home to visitors. Château de Panloy has belonged to the same family for hundreds of years and sits beside the Charente River in Port d'Envaux. The front facade is in good shape, while the back is undergoing much-needed work after damage from winds and rain following severe storms. The interior could also use upgrading. There are guided tours of the house and park, as well as private parties in an outbuilding. As of October 2024, it is not a hotel. I highly recommend a visit. Supporting private homes like this through entrance fees helps fund restoration and preserve heritage for future generations.

There are some lovely manuscripts, objects, furniture, and produce from the large allotment on site. This country residence dates back to before the French Revolution and offers guided tours plus activities for children. The buildings do need restoration, though.
