Le Caillou Blanc

The best part for us was the big suite and its terrace looking straight out to sea. With the windows open, it felt like sleeping on a boat. We spent five wonderful days at Les Hautes Mers, a small 17-room hotel in the Hotels de Fontenille group on ile d'Yeu, and are already dreaming about returning. The setting right by the water is beautiful, and the room was very comfortable. We got around without a car, walking most places and using electric bikes to cross to the other side of the island in under 30 minutes. We biked around and walked the whole island, and even enjoyed the warm pool and jacuzzi despite the chilly weather. There are lots of activities available too. Getting there was easier than expected. The hotel can help arrange the trip if needed; we went by train, taxi, and helicopter and made it from Paris door to door in five hours. You can also take a ferry. The restaurant was really good, probably the best food on the island, with a very creative chef. The team were super nice and competent while reopening for the season. Agathe, the Manager, and Bixente, Chef de Reception, seemed to be everywhere and were always ready to help. A big crew was sorting out last-minute issues, and it was fun to watch them get ready for what will surely be a busy season. There are different kinds of rooms, and availability will go quickly.
