Hotel Alcyon Porto Vecchio

Being right in central Porto Vecchio is about the only good thing I can say. Our room had neither a view nor daylight, so even on sunny days we needed the lights on all day. The bathroom was dated and not very clean. Parking and breakfast cost a lot, and the staff were rude and showed no interest in making guests comfortable. Very poor value for money. :-(

We weren't staying at the hotel, and as tourists we didn't feel welcome. They wouldn't let us use the toilet. Apparently guests are meant to do their business outside the door or on the street. A very uncivilised way for hotel management to treat people.

The rooms are pleasant enough for a night or two, and the terrace has lovely views. A few things kept this from being a five star stay: parking costs 15€ on top of the room, and the air conditioning wasn't working when we visited at the beginning of May. I also wouldn't recommend breakfast. At 17€, it was very average, with ready-made cakes and not particularly good quality.

We were happy with this stop on our motorcycle trip. It's a short walk from the lovely town, and the rooftop bar, where breakfast is served, has a great view. The buffet was good and included fresh fruit, though there's no option to order fried eggs, eggs Benedict or anything similar. The room was clean, and we liked having a balcony. The air conditioning made some noise, and ocean view rooms might be bothersome if you sleep with the windows open, but it didn't bother us. We also aren't fans of the sliding bathroom door. For a night or two, the place worked perfectly.
