Hotel La Chaumiere

We had such a fun, sunny stay. There was a cycling race for its 75th edition, and concerts with different bands playing. Quillon is a lovely place to be, with friendly people. Our host was kind and welcoming, and helped us feel at ease despite our limited French. The rooms were spacious, clean and had amenities. There was also a veranda to sit on on the first floor, and a spa.

We had dinner last night as a group of eight, including one vegetarian and one person with coeliac disease. The menu covers a lot, combining traditional French and Vietnamese food. The staff were lovely and the service was great. There’s plenty of space, and the terrace makes it feel even more open. An excellent restaurant, highly recommended. 😃

It was nice to see that most of the diners seemed to be local French people. The restaurant was packed at the weekend, around 80% full, so we were glad we’d booked and got a comfortable table for two. You can choose from French or Vietnamese menus and mix courses as you like. At 27€ for three courses, the food was perfectly fine for the price. Service was very quick, though with so many guests two waitresses seemed to be at their limit.

The welcome at reception might put you off, but inside it’s a bright, modern hotel with an unusual mix of cuisines that makes sense once you know who owns it. We chose traditional food, and it was good. We didn’t try the non-French dishes, though the ones we saw looked authentic.
