Hotel Ginkgo Hotel & Spa**** - Quimper

The gardens close by are lovely, and we had an excellent meal at the restaurant next door. Our suite was enormous, with a separate living space, large dining table, roomy bedroom and bathroom. The hotel feels fairly new, was very clean, and the staff were friendly. Continental breakfast is offered, and we had no problems during our stay. The decor felt a bit cool to me, so I can imagine it suiting business travelers more than a romantic break.

The lack of a response after we sent the requested photos says a lot about the customer service. We first complained at reception and were told the receptionist would speak with management and contact us within a few days. A week passed with no word, so we emailed. They asked us to send pictures, which we did, and then there was silence again. We followed up once more, over three weeks ago now, and still haven't heard back. We gave the hotel plenty of time and a chance to address it, but it seems there isn't much concern for guest complaints. We paid €250 a night for a suite, and beyond the modern furniture it was missing basics, including a fridge and even milk for tea or coffee. The shower gel container was empty, and the shower had no splash guard, leaving water all over the floor and making it slippery. There was a dead fly on the ceiling light cord, another fly buzzing in the suite all night, and a huge spider in the lounge. We have photos. When we raised the insects, the excuse was that it was summer. That didn't seem valid to us, since housekeeping should deal with this. We asked for management, but were told they were away on holiday for two weeks, with no one else apparently available to take charge. For a four-star hotel, the standard and cleanliness were very disappointing for the price.

We found shopping nearby in old Quimper, and getting to the tourist sites was easy. The hotel was excellent value, with free parking and strong Wi-Fi throughout. Breakfast was excellent too. Our stylish room was very clean, well equipped and a good size, with a large bath as well as comfortable beds. The staff were friendly and helpful. We'd come back.

About a 15-minute walk from the town centre, and the staff were lovely. They had rooms available and upgraded us because they wanted us to have a better stay. Really nice hotel.
