Campanile Rennes Cleunay

This Campanile felt shabby, with broken wooden panels on the slippery outdoor stairs. The bathroom was clean, but there were two visible blood spots on the pillow. Breakfast was adequate. Compared with other places, this one isn’t worth the price.

The hotel is outdated and has few facilities, yet parking costs €5. The staff were very rude, and check-in and check-out were humiliating. I’d booked to pay cash at the hotel, but at check-in I was told the guarantee had to be paid by card. At checkout, they didn’t believe I’d paid it because I hadn’t been given a receipt. They sent me away and told me to call the hotel later or contact the booking service. Eventually a nice lady understood what I meant, but I’ve never been mocked like that at another hotel.

The room was clean, with comfortable beds and a wet room, but it smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. I realize staff probably wouldn’t know until a guest had checked out, and they seemed to have done everything they could to clear it. The kitchen was closed because of a gas leak, but the staff were helpful and gave us information about other places to eat.

We checked in on Saturday, when it was 35c, and there was no air conditioning in the rooms. We were told there was no restaurant on site because it was the weekend, and we couldn’t even get a cold drink since the bar couldn’t serve without the restaurant being open. It was one of the most uncomfortable and unhelpful Campaniles I’ve stayed in. I don’t blame reception staff. The company needs to make sure guests are comfortable at this property.
