This place has nearly everything going for it, though it felt a little detached from France. The hosts, Bart and Loes, are charming, and the restored old buildings have lovely stone walls and exposed beams alongside tasteful modern furnishings and proper modern plumbing. The countryside is all green hills and fat cows, very pastoral and great for dogs. Dinner at the table d’hôte was excellent, served in a nice room looking out over the scenery, and breakfast was good too. There’s basic EV charging at 2.1kw. The atmosphere among guests was the main letdown for us. The Dutch couple’s restoration was featured on Dutch reality TV, and most of the guests seemed to be Dutch. I’m used to French Chambre d’Hôtes being friendly, with people saying bon-jour and meaning it, but some guests here were distant or ignored us. When we offered a glass of wine from a bottle we’d brought up from the south, they reacted as if we had plague. The hosts themselves weren’t standoffish at all. A lovely stay in the Val de Loire, just not especially French in feel.

We stopped here on our way to Spain, then came back again on the return trip. Bart & Lois have made a little paradise in the middle of the French countryside. It’s a magical spot, well placed about halfway between Calais and the Costa Brava or the South of France, whether you just need a stop or want to explore the countryside.

The shared lounge is spacious and cozy, and we had both breakfast and dinner there during our two days. The meals were fresh, plentiful, and delicious, and Loes, Bart, and Amber looked after us with real warmth. Each of the three has their own way of making the place feel personal and welcoming. Outside, it’s green, hilly, quiet and beautiful. The B&B belongs in that setting, with lovely atmospheric rooms and plenty of space to relax. We also played Skip-Bo with other guests after dinner, then indoor pétanque with Amber. @ Amber: we’ll be back someday to play outdoor pétanque! We had a wonderful time and would definitely recommend staying here 😊.

The family room was roomy, spotless, and had lovely beds, so we slept well. The children were happy too, playing in the playground and swimming pool on the spacious grounds. Loes, Bart, and Amber spoiled us, and the food was exquisite. We lingered over dinner, enjoying the relaxed company at the table. We stayed on both the outward and return legs of our holiday in the South of France. The views and peace make this a great place for anyone who wants the journey itself to feel like a holiday, and it would suit a longer stay as well. We were glad to add an extra night on the way home so we could enjoy the place a little more. Thanks, Loes, Bart, and Amber, for such a lovely stay!
