We had a spacious room with a big balcony, a clean bed, and a TV we could connect an HDMI cable to for watching our own movie. Those were the bright spots. The breakfast was a letdown: hard-boiled eggs were the only hot food, with no scrambled eggs, sausages, or other warm options. There were no vegetables either, and after 9:00 the breakfast staff didn't restock, leaving only what was left. The room and shared areas felt very neglected. The elevator and corridors were barely vacuumed, the bathroom floor hadn't been mopped properly, and a brown stain on the toilet seat made it seem like it hadn't been cleaned or disinfected after the previous guest. There was a sewage smell in the bathroom, mold on the window and in the bathroom, a cigarette burn in the carpet, and a musty odor that lingered throughout our stay. After new guests arrive, a room should smell fresh, not stink. The hotel itself feels very old, with old windows, and needs a complete renovation. We were very disappointed. Ibis Styles usually has a higher standard; this one deserves two stars at most.

What made my stay at ibis Styles Roanne stand out was the service. Ilayda at reception was kind and professional from the moment I arrived. The hotel was also comfortable, clean, and thoughtfully run.

The rooms are on the small side, but the prices are affordable and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. Breakfast has plenty of choice, too. If you sleep with the windows open, try not to get a room facing the street. The traffic wasn't what bothered us, it was the frequent announcements at the nearby train station.

Breakfast was a real highlight. Everything was individually wrapped, which felt reassuring while covid was still a thing, and the freshly squeezed orange juice was good enough that I went back for another glass. The staff welcomed us warmly and explained everything we needed to know. We had free Wi-Fi, and the room was quiet with no outside noise. It was also easy to block out the sun at bedtime. My foldable sofa mattress was the one downside. I could feel the springs pressing into my back when I tried to sleep. Still, it was a good experience.

The room was very small and felt worn out. There was a lot of mold in the shower, which made taking a shower feel dirty. I have pictures.
