Brit Hotel Du Chateau Rocamadour

The pool was really refreshing, and breakfast was very good. If you're arriving by car, the location at the top of the cliff is a big advantage. Parking is usually hard in Rocamadour, but guests here can park for free and explore on foot. As far as I could tell, all the staff spoke English, although a few struggled. In France, hotel staff often try to practice their English with me even when I speak French. That didn't happen here, and I appreciated it. The area is popular with French visitors, and many guests at the hotel were French.

The hotel is in a lovely spot near the castle, close to the lift down to the bottom of Rocamadour. There was plenty of open space and grass for my dog, and dogs are allowed in the restaurant too. Mine sat under the table and was happy enough to take care of my duck. My husband found the bed a little hard, but it was perfect for me. The bathroom was okay, though dated. The restaurant is a short walk from the main hotel. Service was polite, but expect a long meal. My husband's food was fine but uninspiring, while my duck breast was badly overcooked. I've never even considered sending food back in France before, and only didn't because I thought a replacement would take a long time. When we came back after dinner, the stairway lights were out because the fuse had gone, so I had to ask for them to be switched on.

The swimming pool was great, and the hotel itself was good, but the staff were very rude. One woman at reception showed no patience with people who don't speak French.

A nice hotel close to Rocamadour, with beautiful scenery and friendly staff.
