The meal itself was fine, but the wine left us really disappointed. We asked for Gaillac, and the waiter urged us to take a different bottle instead, describing it as an excellent local wine from Cahors. The wine didn’t taste like what its label said; it seemed more like inexpensive table wine. I also noticed there was no plastic seal around the cork, which felt strange. We raised the issue with the staff, but they still charged us for it. Check that a bottle looks properly sealed when ordering, even if it’s opened at your table.

The servers were friendly, but the meal was poor. I ordered the beef skewers after asking about an item partly crossed out on the menu, and the server said they were available. What came instead was a very tough piece of skirt steak, packed with gristle. I gave up after a few bites. That cut needs tenderizing, and this one was too much work to eat. I didn’t trust the kitchen enough to send it back. I would never choose a cheap cut like flank steak at a restaurant, especially at those prices. By coffee, only two other tables were occupied. The people nearest us seemed happy, getting several rounds of aperitifs from the owner, while he didn’t acknowledge us when we arrived or left. I can’t help wondering if we got lower-quality food because we were obvious tourists. I speak quite a bit of French and understand it almost perfectly, so language shouldn’t have been an issue. We had some wonderful meals in Rocamadour, but this wasn’t one of them. I’d booked because the reviews praised the warm service and plentiful, delicious food, and the actual meal didn’t match the menu description at all. Parking was another problem. It was dark, the street was narrow, and I had no idea we could park in a roped-off area. The manager later said it was my “responsibility” to stop in the street, get out, and take down the ropes. That can’t be serious. The restaurant’s hostile, insulting reply to me and other people who criticize it only confirms my concern about sending food back. I wouldn’t trust what might be brought to the table afterward. I won’t “remain silent” because they can’t take valid criticism and resort to literary quotes as a backhanded insult. I ate at several fine restaurants on this trip, and this is the one I’d avoid in future.

Conveniently located, especially for people staying at the hotel. A pleasant restaurant with friendly service and a good range of food.

The location is ideal, but the food was disappointing. Whatever care went into making it wasn’t apparent once the plates arrived. It felt as though the restaurant didn’t think it needed to look after food quality because of where it is.

A basic hotel run by expats, in a good spot. Nothing memorable about it; it served as a place to sleep. The town itself could be better.
