L'Esprit du 8

Pascal and Sandrine made us feel very welcome, and their suggestions for dinner and places to visit were spot-on. My wife and I spent several nights here in September and really enjoyed it. The home has loads of character and sits in a great location. We’d gladly recommend it.

We’ve returned many times, and each of the beautiful, comfortable rooms has its own appeal. Sandrine and Pascal are ideal hosts, and their care for the building and each room’s furnishings shows how much they love design. The hotel is truly unique. I can’t recommend L’Esprit du Huit enough. A stay there alone makes Rochefort worth a visit.

Sandrine and Pascal are warm, gracious hosts who clearly care deeply about their work and Rochefort. Their restaurant suggestions were fabulous, and it was a pleasure getting to know them. The old house is exceptionally nice, with bright, spacious rooms and large bathrooms. The beds and bedding were lovely, the garden is big, and the pool is beautiful. There’s parking on the premises, and breakfast was delicious.

We’ve stayed in plenty of hotels and guest houses over the years, but nowhere has made us feel as relaxed or looked after as L’Espirit du 8. Sandrine and Pascal have a knack for making you feel at home, with attentive care that never feels intrusive. By the end, we felt like part of a French family. We were so impressed by our week there that we’ve already booked for next year, which is unusual for us since there are so many places to see. The pool and garden feel like a little paradise, and secure parking is provided. Inside, the original, interesting decor gives you plenty to enjoy while you relax. We were lucky to see all the very individual bedrooms, and every one seemed appealing. The house itself feels like a work of art. There’s a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere, plus a sociable breakfast with plenty of variety. The hosts clearly care about the house, the area, and especially their guests. Rochefort is a good base for seeing the region, and the town itself has plenty for anyone interested in maritime history or historic architecture.
