Le Val de Sault

A walking path through an almost entirely forgotten corner of the high Aude.

The scenery around the village makes for superb walks, and family ski resorts are under 20 minutes away. The sea is an hour off, with Cathar castles nearby. It's a typical Aude Pyrenees village, pleasant and authentic in every season, and at times it feels like it's outside of time. A long way from the city.

The house is lovely, with little thoughtful details that make it feel welcoming. Our room was huge, well kept, and spotless. The shared bathroom was a little small, though. The location is very remote, and the road takes some effort, but the mountain scenery and nature are fantastic. We ended up here after an unexpected change of plans and had a really satisfying stay. The owners were warm and attentive, looked after us well, and we had a nice drink together. They grow vegetables in their garden and offered us some for dinner. Breakfast was excellent and served to us. There's also a large, fully equipped kitchen with fridges and dishwashers for making your own meals, and pets are welcome. Everything was great, highly recommended.

Raspberries picked fresh and delicious homemade jams made breakfast a treat. The hosts were friendly and very helpful, and the rooms were roomy and comfortable. It's an idyllic spot, all at a very reasonable price. I highly recommend it!
