Eklo Hotels Paris Roissy CDG Airport

I left at 10am on Tuesday, even though my flight wasn't until 9pm, just to get out of this pig pen. I was only there four nights, thank goodness. Paris means a lot to me, but this third visit left me with horrendous memories. The staff seemed to speak only French and often looked like they couldn't be bothered. On Saturday afternoon, a stranger walked into my room while I'd dozed off. Then someone from reception came up saying I wasn't in their system. Funny, because they found me quickly enough on arrival to take my 40-plus euros in case I trashed the room. Luckily I print everything when I travel and had my Easyjet details on paper. I booked through Easyjet Holidays and went for the price, sadly. I arrived Friday afternoon before the 3pm check-in and was offered the room early for 20 euros, which I declined. The room was clean but not welcoming, had no kettle, and overlooked a building site. Breakfast was a free-for-all, with guests boiling their own eggs, though at least the croissants were hot. There's no metro nearby, and Aeroville Shopping Mall is the only thing of interest. Even for a four-night stay, I should have had clean towels and my rubbish removed, but neither happened. I had to ask a cleaner for toilet roll after being given only half a roll for the whole stay. My skin is bitten to hell, which I presume was bed bugs based on another review here, and now I also have a severe stomach bug.

We booked a family room for four through a site called dayuse and used the hotel's day-use option to get three hours of sleep and recover from airport fatigue. There were five of us, including three teenagers, so we squeezed in and managed to rest. It's a very basic, compact room with little space to move around. The blackout curtains make it completely dark, and the separate toilet and shower/sink setup is interesting. It works for sleeping before heading off, but I wouldn't choose it for a long stay.

The hotel staff were polite and friendly, which I appreciated, but the stay was still a big disappointment. There was a very strong, unbearable smell in the room, seemingly sewage from the bathroom. We had to leave the window open for hours before it was bearable. My flight was delayed, and the hotel approved my request to stay a few extra hours. Housekeeping hadn't been told, though. While my girlfriend was naked, a staff member opened the door without warning. It was extremely uncomfortable and inappropriate.

The playful lobby and restaurant, fast WiFi, plenty of electrical outlets, very clean rooms, comfortable bed, and white linens were all pluses. There's a green park or area within walking distance, and the eco concept has a sense of humor: a bathroom QR code plays music to encourage you to finish your shower by the end of the song. Aircraft noise during the day is noticeable, though kind of fun to watch. EKLO makes sense if you're headed to CDG, especially because of its proximity and shuttle. The rooms have a monastic design. Rates were okay, but the shuttle and restaurant hours are very limited. Arrive before 5 pm and there's no shuttle, leaving a 30 euro taxi ride. The restaurant is overpriced, especially breakfast. Staff seemed caught up in their tasks, so service meant waiting, with the young lady and bartender at reception as exceptions.
