The hotel is lovely and modern, close to the city centre, and looks as if it has recently been renovated. There was a water problem when we arrived, though, and it wasn't working until 7 PM. I wish they'd let us know in advance. Parking was quite tight, but we managed to fit our slightly larger car.

The reception staff were pleasant, but the man serving drinks was just rude. We wanted something before heading out, but the supposed bar was a disused, dirty area with bar equipment and a bucket catching some unknown liquid from the mouldy ceiling above. The rooms felt extremely basic and dated. There were coffee facilities, but not even milk cartons for tea or coffee. The walls were paper thin, and crying babies and dogs barking in nearby rooms kept us from sleeping. We skipped breakfast and couldn't wait to leave. Nothing about the Grand Hotel De La Seine felt grand. The surrounding area was shabby, and that feeling carried on inside. How is this a 4-star hotel? Two stars at best.

Our room was small, but clean, well looked after, and comfortable after a day out. It had the amenities we needed and was fair value for the price. Staff were polite and helpful, especially when we asked about the Bastille Day celebrations and getting around Rouen. The Grand Hotel de la Seine is about a ten-minute walk from the city centre, so we could easily visit local sights and enjoy the atmosphere. We had a pleasant stay, and it seems a solid option for a comfortable, straightforward visit.

The front desk staff were especially kind, giving us a map, sharing some local history, and recommending good places for dinner. The hotel is within walking distance of the historic site where Joan of Arc was burned, in a beautiful area full of history. Our room was clean and everything was in order, so we had no complaints.

We’d happily book here again on our next drive from the UK to France. The stay was so good we wished we had more time. Everything felt thoughtfully done, from the decor to the organic soaps. The rooms and facilities seemed new, and the whole hotel was very clean. Staff were kind and helpful through our several calls about parking, whether our car needed a low-emission sticker, and how early breakfast was available. It starts at 6:30 am.
