Hôtel Beauséjour

We arrived with our luggage and dog after booking six months ahead, only to be told there was no room for us. They hadn’t called or sent a message beforehand. The receptionist didn’t trust that we had a booking until we showed the confirmation accepted in August. There were excuses and blame placed on someone or something else, and the receptionist laughed at us even though the situation was serious. They offered a room at another hotel ten times farther away than the one we’d booked. The receptionist refused to refund our money, so now we have to find somewhere else and pursue a refund. We booked despite the negative comments because this hotel is close to the train station. Please go somewhere else.

The lady at reception was friendly and welcoming. Our room and double bed were a good size, while the bathroom was cramped. Part of the shower cubicle front was missing, so it was hard to keep water off the floor. The toilet was squeezed into the corner between the sink and shower, making it difficult to get near if you’re on the larger side. It’s a typical small French hotel, just a two-minute walk from Rouen Rive Droit main railway station. There’s also a nice Japanese restaurant around the corner.

I’ve never stayed in a worse hotel. The room was filthy and badly furnished, the WC was dirty, and the doors and floor were broken. The electrical installation looked questionable too. I seriously doubt the sanitary and safety conditions. Definitely a place to avoid.

The hotel itself was small, with a tiny bathroom, but seemed clean enough for the price, and the location is great if you come by train. We found a room at nearby Hotel Bonaparte, where the service was the exact opposite of what we’d just experienced. Two of the three women we dealt with were unfriendly, and one was outright rude. The staff generally seemed incompetent, and nobody spoke English. When we arrived, they said they didn’t have our reservation. I pointed to my name on the list, and the receptionist replied, “I’m tired.” The first time we tried to pay, the receptionist took our money but gave us no payment confirmation, so we took it back and planned to pay the next day. Then the price had gone up. As we tried to understand why, the third receptionist became aggressive, and we left right away. After traveling quite a lot, this was the worst hotel experience I’ve had. I’d give zero stars if I could.
