Camping Les Chapelains

We camped in Ramiere, right beside the Drôme, among acacias and oaks. Cicadas sang in the trees, and a sandy little path led to a lovely swimming spot that felt like our own. The campsite has welcoming hosts, clean facilities, a nice bar and restaurant, and a wild river for swimming. You can also walk into the village for the boulangerie, shops and bars. We had a great stay and plan to come back.

We had a good time canoeing, and the campsite has access to a gorgeous, crystal-clear stretch of the Drôme where you can sit right in the water. The toilets and showers were clean and well looked after, with plenty of hot water. Saillans is a pleasant nearby town with a Boulangerie, bars and restaurants. We didn't eat at the campsite restaurant, though it looked busy when open. The town-owned tennis courts beside the site can be booked for 10 euros an hour. The restaurant on the traffic island down the road is beautiful and well worth trying at lunch. Great facilities, a fantastic location and a great price.

We had a lovely stay and would come back. The campsite is shady and right by the river, and the friendly couple who run it do a great job. The only problem was a large group of youngsters arriving and making for a very noisy, stressful evening.

From our tent in la Ramiere, the farthest and quietest part of the campsite, we were right beside the river. Of course, how peaceful any pitch is depends on who's camping next door. The owners put on small dinners with good music and wine tastings featuring Clairette from local winery Raspail. Visiting the winery is worth it. Seeing how Jean Claude Raspail works from the heart and makes such high-quality wine was impressive. There are lovely hikes in the Trois Becs, cycling, and relaxing swims in the river nearby, and the beautiful village of Saillance is a short walk away. The owners are friendly, the sanitary facilities are clean, and it's rare to find a campsite like this.
