B&B HOTEL Diepp

On our way to England, my husband and I had to change rooms three times at Mercury Orléans because they weren’t clean, with marks on the walls, cobwebs and mould in the shower room. Staying here for a fraction of the price was a refreshing change: the room was clean, the shower was great, breakfast was very nice, and the staff were lovely. It’s very good value, and we’ll definitely use this hotel again on the way to England and return.

For a basic, budget friendly overnight stop after the ferry, this has what you need. The beds were comfortable, and the clean room was simple. My two kids thought the upper level made for an exciting sleep. Late check-in through the automated system was fairly straightforward. The bathroom was clean, but at 6ft 3in I couldn’t use the shower, anyone over 5ft 10in would have to bend over. I’d recommend it for an overnight stop.

The clean sheets and firm, comfortable bed were the saving grace. The rug by the entrance was covered in what looked like dog hairs. Our double room was tiny, with four screws where a bedside shelf should have been, and the bathroom extractor fan didn’t work. The place as a whole felt uncared for, and people were smoking in the corridors outside their rooms. We arrived late after getting off the ferry, using the outdoor stairs or lift to reach the rooms. A very disappointing stay compared with other hotels in the chain.

I’ve had breakfast here before and it’s never disappointed. I’m happy with the service, room and cleanliness, though I’d prefer a softer mattress. I’ll keep using this hotel.
