Moulin de Laboirie

The property itself is beautiful, but the owner’s aggressive behaviour made the stay feel unsafe to us. From arrival, we felt unwelcome. When I asked why he was yelling at us in a common area, he called us “a dishonest people” and told us to leave. He also told my husband “to control his woman.” We were shocked and left early the next morning, since it was the hottest day of the year and leaving right away didn’t feel safe. Meanwhile, we saw white French guests being encouraged to make themselves at home, smoke, hold pool parties at night, and do as they pleased. I can only conclude from how we were treated that non-French guests or people of colour may be singled out. The place has no air conditioning, just a fan available on request. Breakfast was stale baguette, cold butter, and orange juice from concentrate, with no cheese. Cleaning also left a lot to be desired. I could overlook those things, but not the hostility. I wonder why the owner left the business sector in Germany to work in French hospitality if this is how he treats guests.

The hosts were friendly, and breakfast came with generous portions of homemade food. It’s a peaceful, beautiful spot, with spacious rooms and a bathroom in each one. Thanks to the hosts!

A lovely spot in the French countryside, just right for slowing down and unwinding. I stopped here with my family during our three-week trip.

We found it very peaceful, with several places to relax both inside and outdoors. The owners greeted us with big smiles and were genuinely warm and kind. We stayed two nights, and really enjoyed the breakfast. We’ll definitely come back!
