Hôtel Les Dômes de Miage

The staff were pleasant, but that wasn’t enough to make up for the rest. The room had a horrible smell of old, unwashed clothes, and even with the windows open it came back quickly. At breakfast the table covers felt dirty and sticky, and the cutlery was dirty too. It was pretty disgusting. The bathroom was the strangest bit of design. To get into the shower, you had to climb over the toilet. Breakfast itself was just OK. Also, although the hotel was advertised on Booking as a bar and restaurant, the restaurant wasn’t open on weekends. If we’d known, we’d have booked somewhere nearer actual restaurants. I’d avoid this place unless desperate.

Driving up the mountain to this lodge was quite an adventure, and the view from there was amazing. With the windows open, it felt like lying out in the wild. The place was a highlight of our trip to the French Alps. Service was good, and our host was polite and helpful. The food was pretty decent and affordable.

Breakfast the next morning was cold and very basic. The croissant and baguette were hard and left uncovered on the table where flies could get to them. There wasn’t even soap in the bathroom. The bathroom itself was so tiny you practically had to jump from the toilet to the shower, which seemed just big enough for a ten-year-old. At check-in, they’d changed the room shown in our booking photo. I’d booked two regular beds, but they switched us to bunk beds, and our original room had already been given to someone else. The receptionist was rude and sent us to the so-called boss, who kept us waiting even though he was there. Then he said it didn’t matter that the room and beds had changed. They didn’t speak English at first, apparently because they were at fault. I’ve never had such rude treatment on a trip. I’m easygoing, but this hotel was a complete disappointment.

The person responsible for the property refused a refund and accused us of acting in bad faith. The room keys could open any room, the breakfast included spoiled yogurt, and there were broken toilet flush buttons and a smelly carpet. Terrible experience. Stay away!
