Hotel Munsch

Clean and quirky, with friendly staff and great value for money. I haven’t tried the restaurant on my last two visits, though it used to have a very good reputation before C-19.

This is about the restaurant, not the hotel. We stopped there after finding a flyer on our windshield at Château du Haut-Kœnigsbourg. It promised a welcome wine, but apparently that meant one glass for all of us, not one each. That wasn’t a nice welcome. We got there at 13.45, and the woman said she could still seat us even though the kitchen for hot meals was closed. We agreed, then were put on the terrace and handed menus with no explanation of what was still available. Everything was in French, and the cold dishes were listed in different sections, so it wasn’t clear. One of the women got a bit pushy about taking our order. Later, another woman came by and the attention was somewhat kinder. The food was okay. Prices seemed high, though I don’t have much to compare them with in that tourist town. The service was average.

The bed was good to sleep in, and the staff were friendly. The bathroom was new, though the shower was small. Breakfast was simple but good. The room itself was poor, with no fridge, climate control, or safe, and the overall interior felt old-fashioned. The price is high for what they offer. If you can book through a travel deal, the price seems okay.
