The service was wonderfully unobtrusive, with attention at the table when it was needed. And the food was delicious from one course to the next, each one setting up the next. It felt like a thoughtful, creative journey rather than just a meal. Top quality all around. I can't recommend it enough.

The garden is fantastic, and the place is so quiet, right by the forest. I’ve been coming back every year for many years. About 50 years ago it was a very simple little inn, with the annex serving as the horse stable. It’s lovely to see it now, with its beautiful interior, great rooms and service. Such a wonderful place to unwind.

The food was beautifully put together, with some really imaginative combinations. We chose the tasting menu with wine and were glad we did. Most of the pairings were thoughtful and the wine was very good, though there was one I didn’t care for. Service was good, just not quite at the same level as the food. We had a lovely evening.

The setting is a big part of the appeal. It’s a lovely village, with the Forest of Compiegne and its marked trails at one end of the street, and the ancient walled Abbatiale at the other for an after-dinner walk. We’ve stayed three times, and the food and service have been first class on each visit. We’d happily come back any time and hope to stay longer.

I’m commenting on the restaurant. The dishes look attractive and are technically well put together, but the taste was so bad. The combinations are far too complicated. One Michelin star feels very overrated.
